A song about Abram Morris

This is a "song" I put together for the sing along after dancing all day in 2013.

Preamble
The Dance is performed on the last saturday in June and the team practice the four Tuesdays before.
(Geoff Hughes, who is responsible for the Abram Morris Dancers revival 30+ years ago directs the team) )
On Abram Day, the first performance is at The Morris Dancers Ground, Abram at 11.am
From there, the dance is then performed over 20 times at street corners, pubs, and specific houses/grounds

The White Hankies

It was one summer’s morning as I walked o’er the grass
I had no thoughts of dancing ‘till the music played en masse
I kindly was invited as the lads all gathered round
I’m in Abram, it is June, at the Morris Dancers Ground

We’re the Abram Morris Dancers, in a circle we are stood
I’m an inner, you’re an outer, can you dance it, wish I could
Wearing sashes, rosettes, cummerbunds, holding hankies clean and white
We have practiced throughout June, and every time was shite shocking*

Oh may we ever get it right and flick when we should flick
We’ll have no spotty dogging, the hand waving should be slick
As should the other movements - and the roundy bits – keep slow
These instructions are from Geoff, and we think that he should know

The dancing is improving and mistakes are only slight
Well after 20 times you would think we’d get it right
Only five more times to do it, so it’s time to raise our game
But we're well and truly knackered so the dancing’s just the same

In the club the dancing’s over and its time we should go home
Done Hindley, Brookside, Platt Bridge, around Abram did we roam
Handed in our bits of kit, till next year and we hear that tune
To remind us Abram Day’s the last Saturday in June.

* I suppose could have used "wasn't right" (pronounced "want right")
