More about the boat trip on the MV Polarlys may follow, but just for now here are some pictures of New Years Eve and some of the aurora which were taken on our last night.
New Years Eve in Tromso
Although the cruise was over for us, we were invited back to the ship to enjoy the New Year celebrations on board (of which there weren't very many). However from the sun deck a fantastic panorama of Tromso could be seen with all the fireworks going off from various locations around the city. From the deck we had 360 degrees of fireworks - very difficult to know where to look.

The displays went on from at least half an hour
before New Year to at least half an hour after

As we moved from 2006 to 2007, so did the year indicator in
fireworks on the hillside of Storsteinen (literally "Big Rock")
Not having seen any aurora on the voyage, despite one crystal clear night, we just had to have one last go on our final night (night of 1-2 Jan 2007) - we had to stay up until after 2am to capture it and it was between breaks in the cloud, but that's nature for you.

A sequence of the rapid changing aurora was taken over a period of about 2 minutes
