Columbus Day and the day that the rain came down.
Despite check-out time being 12.00, the maid is banging on the door at 9.30. We're not rushing, because it is teeming down with rain and it is to do this ALL DAY.
Today will not be a great day for sightseeing so we will take our time getting to Cape Cod.
First stop is a visitor centre to check out the leaflets for Cape Cod - A trip to Marthas Vineyard may be a possibility, take the car over and have a little drive around. This was an option right up to the point of seeing the ferry price: $52 one-way for the car ($5 each one-way for us on top of that) .
Decide to drive to the ferry anyway, being as it is at Woods Hole. Lunch was at a "Hearth and Kettle" restaurant at E. Falmouth where Val had "fried scrod" - what on earth is a SCROD?
Woods Hole Oceanographic Inst. is closed - possibly 'cos it is Monday, put also probably 'cos it is a national holiday.
Took an alternative route out and passed a nice lighthouse at Nobska. Lots of pnds and beach huts along the coast, some even look lived in - one was named "Himself's Inn"
Stopped for provisions at a supermarket before going on to the hotel and another poorly ituated room, which they changed instantly.
Dip in the pool, eat some food, finally get round to writing postcards then bed.
The weather channel says today's temperature (42F) broke the record for lowest temp at this time of year since 1897. Cloud is predicted for tomorrow.
