Nice/Cote d'Azur - Pre-departure

Thursday 20th February

Tried booking cottage on the Isle of Arran without success - general requirement being fairly remote (as if Arran isn't already that) and Eastern horizon to view Comet Hale Bopp at 5.00am.
The 70mph gales predicted for the coming week was dampening our enthusiasm for this holiday location.

Friday 21st February

Got the day off work so looked at some other brochures for various places. Thought Madrid/Barcelona might be interesting, so late on Friday wandered up to the Travel Agents to see what's available with a Sunday or Monday departure for 3-5 days. Not Madrid or Barcelona it turned out.

Unavailability of computers cut down further holiday hunting but the next attempt would be Nice for 4 nights with Osprey Holidays.

Saturday 22nd February

At lunchtime we ring the Travel Agent and discover that it is possible to "do" Nice leaving 12.40 tomorrow from Heathrow - So we went for it.

Rest of the day spent getting stuff together (washing - drying - ironing) and packing. Well, Val did all that, I went off and played Hockey and got beat seven or eight goals to one (I didn't get time to check Ceefax to find out the real score).
